Source reliability

  • A Completely reliable
  • B Usually reliable
  • C Fairly reliable
  • D Not usually reliable
  • E Unreliable
  • F Cannot be judged

Information credibility

  • 1 Confirmed
  • 2 Probably true
  • 3 Possibly true
  • 4 Doubtful
  • 5 Improbable
  • 6 Cannot be judged

NATO Admiralty (AJP-2.1) grades confidence, independent of the risk score. Cross-source corroboration isn't tracked for non-CVE news, so single-source items are capped at a lower credibility number; a low number does not imply low quality.

Key insight

The combination of a Linux kernel rootkit, BYOVD EDR neutralisation and cross-platform C2 in a single, widely deployed implant shows that kernel-level evasion techniques are no longer reserved for top-tier state actors.

Description

UAT-10147 is a Chinese-speaking intrusion actor that compromises IIS and Linux servers and operates a multi-platform post-exploitation ecosystem. The newly identified SPECTRE implant combines cross-platform command-and-control, process injection, credential theft and anti-analysis capabilities. For persistence and defence suppression the actor uses Linux kernel rootkits and BYOVD, in which vulnerable, legitimately signed drivers are loaded to neutralise EDR sensors at kernel level. For privilege escalation the attacker uses Potato-family tools such as GodPotato, JuicyPotato, EfsPotato and RustPotato, some compiled from source by the actor itself; embedded PDB paths leaked details of the development environment. Part of the activity is monetised through search engine optimisation (SEO) fraud; no CVE IDs are referenced.
